From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Punch-Out!!, originally released in North America as Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, is a boxing sports fighting video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) developed and published by Nintendo in 1987. Part of the Punch-Out!! series, it is a port of both the Punch-Out!! and Super Punch-Out!! arcade games (particularly the latter) with some variations.
Punch-Out!! features a boxer known as Little Mac working his way up the professional boxing circuits, facing a series of colorful, fictional boxers, leading to a final fight with real-life boxer, the then-World Heavyweight Champion, which is Mike Tyson in the original version and Mr. Dream in the later version.
Little Mac has a limited repertoire compared to most of his opponents. His punches are limited to left and right jabs, left and right body blows, and a powerful uppercut. The uppercut can only be used once the player earns a star, which is typically accomplished by counter-punching the opponent directly before or after certain attacks are launched. The player can acquire up to three stars. To perform the uppercut, the player needs to press the start button once a star is earned. To defend, Mac can dodge left or right, duck, and block punches by putting up his guard.
Little Mac also has a heart meter, which decreases by three upon being struck by an opponent and one upon blocking an attack or an opponent blocking/dodging the player's attack. When the heart meter decreases to zero, Little Mac temporarily turns pink and appears exhausted, leaving the player unable to attack but still able to dodge or block. At this point, Mac can regain some hearts (and his normal color palette) only by avoiding the opponent's punches. He immediately loses all of his hearts upon being knocked down, but can regain some by getting up.
A bout can end by knockout (KO), if a fighter is unable to get up within ten seconds after being knocked down; by technical knockout (TKO), if a fighter is knocked down three times in one round; or by decision, if the bout lasts three full rounds without a clear winner. In order to win by decision, the player must accumulate higher than a certain point total by punching the opponent and/or knocking him down (different boxers require different point totals to win by decision). However, some bouts cannot be won in this manner and will automatically result in a loss for the player if the opponent is not knocked out. Mac can only get up three times during any one bout; if he is knocked down a fourth time, he will be unable to rise and thus lose by knockout.
When Mac loses his first bout to a ranked opponent, he will have a chance to fight a rematch. However, if he loses a Title Bout, he will fall in the rankings - one place for the Minor or Major Circuits, two places for the World Circuit. Losing a rematch causes him to fall one place (unless he is already at the bottom of his circuit), forcing him to fight his way back up. A third loss (not necessarily a consecutive one) ends the game. The exception is the final fight against Mike Tyson/Mr. Dream; a loss to them automatically results in a game over.

Hint: Defeating Bald Bull (Major Circuit):
When the fight starts, he will spin his fists and try to punch you. Dodge his punches and occasionally hit him. Sooner or later he will use his Bull Charge. When he is very near, jab him in the stomach for a one-hit knock down.

Hint: Defeating Bald Bull (World Circuit):
He will be a little faster in this match. Practice your finger speed and use the same tactics as before.
Information in this section was contributed by David Weiss.

At the start of the game where it says “New” and “Continue”, do not press a button. Wait for the scene to appear of a fight with the CPU controlling Mac. If you watch, you will see a strategy for defeating Bald Bull the second time.

Hint: Defeating Bald Bull:
Knock down Bald Bull once during the round before he does his Bull Charge. When he comes at you, hit him with a body shot. If you time it correctly, he should get hit and fall to the ground. Repeat this one more time in the round to win the match and the Major Circuit Title.

Mike Tysons Punch Out Cheats Game Genie

To defeat Bald Bull the second time you face him, you can only knock him down with a star-punch. He will “give” you one by occasionally freezing, and you can get a free punch. If you are quick, you can also cut off one of his right crosses with a left jab to the face. After the first knockdown, he will freeze so you can punch him again. Save the star-punch that you earn because he will do his bull-charge. A well-timed left jab will knock him down for the second time. He will get up, freeze, and you can jab him and now have two star-punches. He never ducks these, as the first Bald Bull learns to do. Use one as part of your 1-2-3 punch after his right cross, but save the second one until you are sure you can get the knockdown with it. If you do it well, you can win by TKO in the first round.
Information in this section was contributed by Jon.

Hint: Defeating Don Flamenco (first fight):
The first thing he does is taunt you. Punch him and he will block it. Then he will do the uppercut demonstrated in his entrance. Dodge this and give him left and right upper attacks repeatedly. He will be knocked senseless to the ground. If he gets up again, he will do an uppercut. Hit him with left and rights and you should get an easy KO.
Information in this section was contributed by David Weiss.

When fighting Don Flamenco you can dodge his straight punch and do a quick punch to the stomach to get an easy star.
Information in this section was contributed by benjamin j nichols.

After you knock him down, he will start with his big cross. You can interrupt him with a left jab just as he raises his right arm and earn a star punch. Let him throw the big cross after he recovers, punch him once in the face, then unload the star-punch. It is possible to win by knockout in 40 seconds.
Information in this section was contributed by Jon.

Hint: Defeating Don Flamenco (second fight):
He is extremely difficult to defeat this time. He now has two more moves — a straight punch and an across jab. He should start out with the straight punch. Dodge those and hit him a couple of times. Next, he will use his across jab. Dodge that and punch him. After that he will taunt you. He will use his famous uppercut. Dodge it and give him left and rights. He will not get punch drunk for the entire series of punches as before. Just keep moving and punching.
Information in this section was contributed by David Weiss.

When he gets ready to throw his left jab, you can jab him in the stomach and will usually get a star-punch out of it. He never learns to dodge them, and if you are lucky, you can earn enough star-punches to get a TKO in the first round.
Information in this section was contributed by Jon.

Hint: Defeating Glass Joe:
When you start the fight just keep giving him upper shots. Hold Up or Down and you will notice that he changes his guard very slowly to block which direction the D-pad is held. Hit him where he is not blocking and you may get a star. One shot of the Super Punch (press Start when you have a star) and he will go down. Another way to defeat him is to wait a short time until he taunts you. When he rushes into you, give him a punch to the gut and he will go down.
Information in this section was contributed by David Weiss.

Use the following trick to do a continuous Flurry on Glass Joe until he falls down. Whenever you punch him and stun him the for the first time, punch him with the left hook, then right and then left… and so on in that order. Whenever he gets back up, repeat this flurry and you will knock him back down again with a single flurry.
Information in this section was contributed by J. Teague.

If you wait 40 seconds, he will jump back and taunt you. When he comes back down, hit him in the face. 60% of the time he will stay down. However, if you want to be sure, hit him with the left.
Information in this section was contributed by Hardkoredbz.

Hint: Defeating Great Tiger:
This fighter’s form is similar to Von Kaiser. Watch the emerald in his turban. Before he punches, it should blink on and off. When he starts to do his uppercuts, use a lower body punch when he bends down to get a star. Sometimes he will get mad and use his tiger flash attack. He will spin around in circles while a missile sound is played. Block to make his repeated punches useless. If you block every punch his head will spin. Hit him in the face for a one-hit knock down. Repeat this to win.
Information in this section was contributed by David Weiss.

During the first round, watch the emerald in his turban. When it turns on and off, quickly punch his face to get a star. Then, do the uppercut move. Repeat this until he falls three times to get a quick TKO.
Information in this section was contributed by Samurai Katsu.

Hint: Defeating King Hippo:
This is a very easy fight. When the Hippo opens his mouth it means he is about to punch you. He should shake violently when he is about to do that punch. While his mouth is open, quickly jab him in the face. He should grab is mouth and drop his trunks. You should see a little bandage that resembles an X. Do an assault of lower body punches. Repeat this and he will be KOed on the first time you knock him down.
Information in this section was contributed by David Weiss.

Unless you know his secret, you cannot hit him. If you do, then he is about as easy as fighters such as Glass Joe, Von Kaiser, and Don Flamenco 1. He has two main styles of punches. He has a semi-powerful punch and a really powerful punch. Dodge the semi-powerful punch every time he throws it. You can counter the really powerful punch (he makes a loud prolonged racket before throwing it) by hitting him to the head once before he can hit you. Note: This requires precise timing. Then, quickly and repeatedly aim at his body until he pulls his pants up. Learn to do this well and he should go down by 1:30 of round 1. When he goes down, he never gets up.
Information in this section was contributed by Marcus Mitchell.

Hint: Defeating Mike Tyson/Mr. Dream in Normal Punch-out:
This is an almost impossible fight to win. He will start out by doing uppercuts that knock you out in one hit. Dodge them. When he is about to attack he winks at you. He also has a move that is similar to the Piston Rush. When he starts to blink a lot, jab him in the face. Sometimes you will knock him down with one hit.
Information in this section was contributed by David Weiss.

Mike Tyson or Mr. Dream for the first 1:30 will always punch at 0:05, 0:09, 0:12, 0:15, 0:19, 0:22, 0:25, 0:29, 0:32, 0:35, 0:39, 0:42, 0:45, 0:49, 0:52, 0:55, 0:59, 1:02, 1:05, 1:09, 1:12, 1:15, 1:19, 1:22, 1:25, and 1:29.
Information in this section was contributed by Mike Parker.

Remember that all of the boxers do the same moves. For example, Mike Tyson always starts with eight to ten upper cuts. He then does eight to ten jabs, and so on. The key to defeating him is to pay close attention to the moves that he does. When he throws upper cuts, he usually flashes for one second, then punches. Just move out of his way. After he throws those eight to ten, he will start his jabs. Watch the wink that he does. Immediately when he winks, move out of the way. Do this several times. You should get a knockout before the round ends. Be patient because you will only knock him down once in the first round. Just let him defeat himself. When the second round starts, he always throws small jabs in this pattern: 1-2-1-2,1-2-1-2-1-2. He will then start into the other jabs. In the second and third rounds, when he starts to blink his eyes very quickly, wait a few seconds, then pop him with a uppercut. If timed correctly, he should fall down no matter how much life he has. If done incorrectly, be ready to block his punches. Do not fight back — just block. After he is done with those jabs, he will flash and throw a upper cut three to four times. By now you should be able to hit him like six to eight times. Be patient, and it will be more than likely that you knock him out in the third round.
Information in this section was contributed by panthers117.

Use the following trick to slow down Mike Tyson. During the first 1:30 of Round 1 you can usually slip in one or two punches after each of his uppercuts. Instead of facing 30 to 40 of these uppercuts, you will only face about 20 and you will whittle Tyson’s energy down to about half by the 1:30 mark.
Information in this section was contributed by Jon.

Mike Tyson can be hit with one or two punches for any punch thrown in round 1. If done correctly, you will have enough time to dodge his next punch. You can K.O. him in round 1, but do not do so. Instead, get him within a punch or two of going down. Next, come out and quickly vary your punching rhythm body-body-head-head-body or some head-body-body-head (or something similar). Find a punching rhythm that works for you. If you get pink, do not worry as he becomes very predictable at this point. He will always throw the same three punch combo after round 1. Just dodge the three punches and unload on him as he were an easy opponent. Repeat this strategy for most of round 2. If you get a star, then your work becomes even easier. You can get a star or even a quick K.O. by hitting him when he winks his eyes at about 1:30, however if he does not go down, he will go Piston Honda on you. Sometimes, before he even does this, it is possible to intercept this move by using the said strategy above. You should T.K.O. him in round 2. If not, then you are well on your way to victory by T.K.O. or win by decision. The point total needs to be 5,000. In round 3, you must remember three things: he does everything that he does in round 2, he is still equally vulnerable to those same tactics, and (most importantly) he is so unpredictable that you must be careful and always be ready to dodge. He will also quickly come back with a punch or punches when he is K.O.’d in this round; be ready to attack accordingly (dodge, then, 1-2 for his medium punch and unload on him when he throws an uppercut).
Information in this section was contributed by Marcus.

In the first 90 seconds of the upper-cut furies of doom, hit him when you dodge to expend his energy, however these need to be timed very well or else Tyson will block those hits. When you press Left to dodge, actually dodge back to the right quickly after he misses you. The game glitches you quickly back into punching form and you can get your punches in on Tyson quite easily. You must be careful not to “dodge back” too soon though, as you will get punched. This technique works on all opponents , and helps you rack up more hits. If you wear Tyson down using this technique and get him down in the first round, he will starts the second round with all his energy if this happens, do not knock him down but instead wear him down to just before the knock out. Then when you dodge the jabs at the top of round two, you can get him down early which sometimes allows for a round two TKO; otherwise you get the TKO in round three or win by decision. The round two TKO is dependent upon whether or not the flashing eye upper-cut actually knocks him down or not, which depends on luck.
Information in this section was contributed by Marty Simpson.

This is very difficulty because he is fast and deadly during round 1. Also, he quickly blocks. Any mistakes with trying to do the following strategy will end in failure. When Tyson throws a punch that is coming from the left or right direction, then you must 1-2 him as before, with your own left or right punch being the first punch of the 1-2 combination. His actual right will be your actual left and his actual left will be your actual right. The easiest way to remember this is that Tyson’s right might as well be a left (because he is coming from your left; and you will counter this with a left, and vice versa. This doubles or triples the damage that you can do to Tyson. This only works for punches that you can both dodge and hit him. Using this, it is possible to knock Tyson down at the 1:30 mark of round 1. If you are skilled enough, you can use this strategy along with the others to really increase your odds of easily beating Tyson.
Information in this section was contributed by Marcus Mitchell.

Hint: Defeating Mr. Sandman:
Pay attention to his entrance and beware of his strong uppercuts. He should start out by doing straight punches. Ignore them and do not try to hit him while he is doing the straight punches. Sooner or later he will do across punches. Punch him in the face, then keep jabbing him in the stomach. You cannot keep jabbing him in the face because he will block Repeat this to defeat him.
Information in this section was contributed by David Weiss.

Counter his regular and across punches the way you normally would (one blow to the head for regular, blow to the head and three stomach punches for across). However, after awhile he will start using his dreaded uppercuts. These is actually good, as they are avoidable. When he starts flashing for the uppercut, get out of the way. Keep getting out of the way as soon as you get back to the original position three times. There is about a half a second between each punch — timing your dodges is not too difficult. Immediately after that, uppercut him and then you will be able to stomach punch him ten times. He should be so easy after awhile that you should be able to take him down in about one and a half rounds.
Information in this section was contributed by Threefiddy350.

Hint: Defeating Piston Honda (Minor Circuit):
Watch his entrance and pay attention to his eyes. You will notice that he moves his eyebrows frequently. Every time he does a basic punch, he will move his eyebrows. When he moves his eyebrows, jab him in the chest. This should give you a star. Sooner or later he will start to do uppercuts. Dodge the attack, punch him, then use the Super Punch. When he gets tired of getting beaten up, he will use his Piston Rush (a series of punches). When he rushes into you, punch him in the gut and he should go down. Repeat this process to win.
Information in this section was contributed by David Weiss.

Hint: Defeating Piston Honda (second fight):
He has improved greatly in this match. All his moves are the same, but faster. Watch for his Piston Rush. For a one hit KO, punch him immediately before he reaches you while doing his Piston Rush. .
Information in this section was contributed by David Weiss.

To defeat Piston Honda both times you face him, throw a well-timed left jab to his stomach just as he launches his piston-charge to knock him out. It may also earn a star-punch, or he may block it. If you do not knock him out, he will continue to charge with those piston-punches.
Information in this section was contributed by Jon.

Hint: Defeating Soda Popinski:
This man is very slow and that is his only weakness. Dodge his punches and uppercuts and punch him. There is no real strategy with this opponent. First, he will do punches that go across, then he will move to his power uppercuts.
Information in this section was contributed by David Weiss.

Hint: Defeating Super Macho Man:
Beware of his twist punches. He should start out by using across jabs. Dodge them and give him a couple of punches in the face. Watch out for his uppercuts. When he shakes, he is about to do his spin punch. Move to the right to dodge it. When he is knocked down, be careful when he gets up — he will do a series of spin punches. Dodge all of them (about 10) and give him what for. Repeat this to win the World Circuit Title.
Information in this section was contributed by David Weiss.

Use the following trick to earn a star-punch against Super Macho Man. When he is waiting for his surprise spin-punch, you can uppercut him to earn a star-punch. After you knock him down and you are waiting on his super-spin, you can also uppercut for a star-punch. After you’ve hit him with one or two star-punches, he starts dodging them. If you are bold, you can time a star-punch so that you can hit him as he throws his right-cross.
Information in this section was contributed by Jon.

He will come out throwing slow uppercuts and hooks. Dodge them and unload on him until no longer possible. Most of the time in round 1 he will eventually setup his medium spin punch. When he does, attack him to the head, and it is possible to get multiple stars. Sometimes you can intercept this punch using these tactics, but be careful. If he lands it, he takes half of your normal life away. Now, keep from getting hit to keep your stars. Unload on him when the opportunity arises and after two or three punches, then land your super punch. He seems to be more vulnerable to your star punch in the first round; even then, as you land multiple star punches, it becomes harder each time. Continue this strategy until he goes down. When he goes down, he will come back with his multiple KO spin punches. He will pause just before; attack him to the head. It is possible to get two stars. Each punch goes around slowly. Dodge them; as with fighters like Bald Bull, timing is critical. Note: If you have a star, you can hit him with it when he pauses before the spin punches. However, do not try to both get a star and land a star during this time, as he will have enough time to land a spin punch. He is also vulnerable to a star, if you can time him perfectly as he is throwing a hook. This may take some practice and instinct. Using these tactics, it is possible to TKO him between 1:30 and 2:00 of round 1.
Information in this section was contributed by Marcus.

Hint: Defeating Von Kaiser:
This fight is relatively easy. Keep your eyes on his face. Whenever he moves he is ready to give a punch. After he is done giving jabs, he will start to give uppercuts. When he bends down to do the uppercut, give him a lower left shot to the gut. You should get a star. When he does another uppercut, dodge it and punch him in the face. Next, use the Super Punch and he will be down for the count. Repeat this to win.
Information in this section was contributed by David Weiss.

Hint: Easy win:
To get an easy win, attack two or more times. Then just watch until you see him blinking red and move to the left. Swap him by rapidly pressing Up + A about six times, then he will block. Keep repeating this until he is out.
Information in this section was contributed by Ricky Marcinowski.

Prepare during the round to K.O. a fighter early next round by getting a given fighter within a punch or two of going down. Then, capitalize on that advantage by quickly knocking him down early the next round. It should now be easier to T.K.O. them within that next round.
Information in this section was contributed by Marcus.

Hint: Using the Star punch on Mike Tyson:
Many people think that you should never use the Star punch on Mike Tyson. This is true for his uppercuts. He will almost always dodge and drill you. However if you collect a Star, you can use it on his jabs. After he blinks his eye, dodge, stun him, and then use the Star. For some reason, he will not dodge these.

Hint: TKO:
Knock down an opponent three times in a single round to get a TKO. Note: This does not work on King Hippo.

Hint: Get up faster (emulator):
Note: This trick only works with the Jnes emulator. When you get knocked down, press A and B buttons with the simulation A-B-A-B-A-B-A-B-A-B. For Jnes, the keyboard buttons should be D for A and F for B.

Hint: Knockout retry (emulator):
Note: This trick may only be done if the game is played on the NESticle emulator. Select “CPU”, “NES Movie”, and “Record” to capture your match. If your boxer is knocked out, play the movie and stop a few seconds before your boxer is knocked out. The emulator will start the game exactly at the point where it was stopped, allowing you to avoid the mistake that lead to the knock out.
